The Center for Educational Leadership offers a comprehensive approach to school turnaround that focuses on a through line from the district office to the classroom. Our experience has shown that effective turnaround has to include a clear framework for improving the quality of teaching, the quality of school-based leadership, and principal support. Implementing this type of framework requires the use of effective strategies and routines at every level of a school system.
We utilize a multitiered approach to improve teaching and learning and to build the expertise of district and school leaders to practice the skills and habits of strong instructional leaders. The elements of our approach include the following:
- School needs assessment
- Instructional best practices training for principals and teachers
- Instructional leadership best practices training for school leaders
- Teacher coaching and development
- Leadership coaching and development
Grounded in CEL’s 4 Dimensions of Instructional Leadership™ framework, 5 Dimensions of Teaching and Learning™ framework, and our Principal Support Framework, our work structures include small and large group learning sessions, individual and small group coaching, onsite or online professional learning communities, and onsite job-embedded coaching. We customize the specific services to each school setting to accomplish the goals of improved teaching and learning, increased student achievement, and closure of achievement and opportunity gaps.
